Our work at Springboard To Opportunities has always been about centering the experiences and voices of the families that we work with. Yet in our society and culture at large, the voices of low-income families have been perpetually dismissed and left out of conversations at every level. It is time that we change that.
In our Storytelling Series, we seek to elevate the wisdom and experiences of our families. These are stories of joy, heartbreak, perseverance, setbacks, dreams, and challenges. These are human stories. Too often the stories of low-income women are mediated through the perspectives and assumptions of those writing articles or op-eds. But our goal is to let women tell us in their own words about their own lives. It is time we change those narratives by changing the narrator.
