Springboard’s Summer Cash Initiative Counters State’s SUN Bucks Opt-Out
Policy and Program Reports
Policy Points: Child Tax Credit
The purpose of this credit is to help offset the tax liability of families with children. Additionally, it is meant to help reduce child poverty levels. As of today, Americans who make over $2,500 and have dependents are eligible for the CTC.
Policy Points: Child Care Assistance
CCPP works in tandem with TANF but can be affected by TANF amounts. Parents may also have to navigate work requirements or be enrolled in school, which may be difficult without reliable childcare.
Policy Points: Earned Income Tax Credit
Low-income individuals are eligible for this credit as they begin to earn money. As an individual’s income level rises, the EITC rises along with it until it reaches a certain point and phases back out as income increases.
Policy Points: Guaranteed Income
Like the housing-first model, GI is a “cash-first” model. These types of models assume that the first thing humans need to thrive is stability.
Policy Points: Temporary Assistance for Needy Families
For many families in Springboard communities, TANF is seen as taboo. In 2021, Mississippi had the lowest approval rate for TANF benefits per month in the nation.
